Hey James! I like the basis here.. if I'm absolutely honest, I would say this sounds like a demo and not a final polished product. The vocals could do with some back up harmonies / doubling over in places to help build the track up, and I really like the rap section, you could maybe make more of that. However looking across your online profiles the artwork supporting your music is great, you're regular on twitter and insta, and you have a great looking website. These are all brilliant foundations to build upon. I would definitely look to find some people online to collaborate with in terms of vocals or remixes to help broaden your fanbase. Also It's not for me (or anyone really) to say whether a track is ready. If this is 100% the sound you're happy with then maybe look to some online PR to help get some blog interest going / getting up on Hype Machine etc. Stick at it!
50k plays is really nice but the track is one year old - don't rely on this one thing, but don't get back to it right now as well because that doesn't make any sense to the internet. You're far better off to delete it all together and get a proper publicist to work on the track and send it to the key outlets with a bit of a background story/proper picture/fresh Soundcloud upload. It's not likely to get any coverage all of a sudden, blogs will not write about it because it's over a year old already. It's better to start with a clean slate than rely on the things you've done in the past, because you might get stuck in the past that way.
Even though it's not really the type of stuff I play on my show...I can really appreciate this. It's upbeat, super fun and something I could jam to if it came on in a club setting...The beat is infectious...I also really love the rap. It's classy...respectful...And I like that there are no expletives...or derogatory, over-sexed lyrics which are so prevalent in most rap (in both hip hop or house)... Production wise, it sounds good to me overall. Some change-up in music during the different sections would make some sections jump out more and would make it sound a little tighter...Maybe some sort of a more pronounced drop at 0:34 and also something needs to happen at 0:17... But really, all throughout the song an introduction of high-hat somewhere to accent certain sections...or just throw in some other percussive stuff to lift a certain sections... I love how the beat kicks in at 2:27...I'd like to hear the whole song...
